Surfing Phuket

Phuket has long been a popular surf location which attracts boarders from the four corners of the globe. There a few good spots from the experienced wave-rider as well as those looking to learn for the first time.

Kata Beach: Is without doubt the surfing capital of the island. It features consistent surf and is the venue of the largest annual surfing competition.

Kata Noi: Waves are best off the northern headland but they can be pretty rapid and up to two metres with a right-hander main break. Winds are generally northeasterly to southeasterly.

Karon Beach: Not the most popular due to its very open conditions. The constantly shifting sandbanks mean its not a reliable spot and pretty much anywhere else is better.

Patong Beach: Go to the northern end for the best place to surf on this busy beach. The waves can be fast, quite good and open to wind.

Kalim Beach: One of the better beaches for surfers and on more blustery days when other parts of the island are impossible many people head here. Although it can be quite busy.

Kalama: The northern end is a beach break and with stable sandbanks because of the reefs. You can find consistent waves of up to three metres which build up closer to the shore with a point break for the more experienced.
