Khao Phra Thaeo Conservation and Wildlife Centre aims to promote wildlife in Khao Phra Thaeo park. It is found 22kms from Phuket town, in Thalang district, and consists of virgin forest teeming with a large number of wild animals which otherwise would face extinction is expanding Phuket.

It is also a centre for learning, with studies undertaken which concern the spectacular forest vegetation. Here giant trees with huge supporting buttresses are covered with thick climbers and creepers of every description, just like the set of a Tazan film.

One particular palm species, the White Back Palm or Governor’s Palm (palm lang khao) is especially rare. Civet, gibbons, macaques, flying squirrel, porcupines, macaques, squirrel, flying lemur, bat, chameleon, wild boar, mouse deer, and many bird species inhabit the forest. It also serves as one of the most important sources of water in Phuket.

It is a great time of year to visit this impressive natural wonder. The rains have stopped but the vegetation is still verdant and the lovely waterfall is particularly powerful and utterly idyllic. Khao Phra Thaeo Conservation and Wildlife Centre is found in Amphoe Thalang, just 22kms up route 402 from Phuket Town.
