Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm
Posted by Andaman Sam on November 19th, 2010 filed in Activities, Family funIf you’re looking for a little excitement during your trip to Phuket, then take yourself to Phuket’s Crocodile Farm – the Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm. The Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm is an outdoor aquarium which is home to more than 1000 aquatic species, namely fresh and salt water crocodiles and alligators. In fact, around 10,000 crocodiles and alligators call the Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm home! The aquarium enjoys a beautiful location, set in tropical gardens with an abundance of exotic flora and fauna to add to the atmosphere of the farm.
The Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm has been operating for more than twenty years now, and is absolutely an interesting place for the whole family to visit, as the farm is more than simply a zoo for visitors to come to see crocodile shows. The farm also acts as a nursery, breeding a number of crocodiles and alligators, and then taming them as well. Visitors to the farm can watch the taming process as well.
There are also daily shows in the mornings and afternoons which feature the crocodiles and alligators performing some dare-devil stunts, or should I say, their handlers performing the dare-devil stunts in combination with the crocodiles!
In addition to the crocodiles and alligators, the Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm also has a number of other animals including tigers, gibbons and ostriches. The farm is very large, so visitors should bring some good walking shoes to get around. The Chana Charoen Crocodile Farm is open daily from 9am to 6pm. Admission is 500 baht for adults and 300 baht for children – a very fair price for an excellent family day out.
