Escape the heat

Posted by Andaman Sam on April 5th, 2013 filed in Activities, Diving, Shopping, Tourist tips

It is starting to get extremely hot in Phuket, as we are now experiencing summer time in Thailand. As Songkran nears the temperature starts to get higher and higher and many tourists find the heat to be unbearable.

Yesterday it was 38°C in Phuket, though with the humidity it felt more like 48°C. This can be dangerous for those that have never experienced this kind of heat before, but by following a few tips it is still possible to enjoy a holiday in Phuket during these hot times. The most important thing is to be sure not to walk around too much, or if you do be sure to wear a hat. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are common, especially in older tourists. Also be sure to drink plenty of water to ensure that you are hydrated.

Phuket offers visitors a number of places to go to escape the heat, especially when it is at its peak in the middle of the day. The air conditioned shopping centres are a great place to head to and a guide on shopping centres in Phuket can be seen here. Another option is to hit the open water and go scuba diving for the day. Read about the dive sites in the area on this One Stop Phuket guide.

Most high-end spas are air conditioned and make for a relaxing way to escape the heat. Many of these offer full-day and half-day packages of pure pampering and have a great range of different treatments. For a list of some of the best spas in Phuket, visit One Stop Phuket’s Spa Guide.
